Update: My father just suffered a mild heart attack. He's doing fine, but it's laid him low for a month or so. I'd like to ask everyone to spare a prayer or thought for sick everywhere. Thank you. For starters, today you will notice a palpable absence of Exiles' Rant which I've been promising for what seems like weeks now. I am beginning to despair of this so-called 'miracle' of email. Maybe, one day, it will come... but not today. Edit The rant turned up just after I uploaded this. Hooray! This is all thanks to Murphy's Law: Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong, in the most inconvenient way, at the most inconvenient time. You can use that to your advantage if you just think ahead. Look below for the edited version (and remember, it's slightly out of date). A reminder to vote for me on the Super 100; go to Links and click the big yellow thing at the bottom. If you've already done so, you have my thanks, but do it again next week. And talk about this comic! I like publicity, and people seem to like the comic, so everybody wins when you spread the word. Speaking of talking about things, I'd like to hear some of what my loyal viewers have to say. Thanks again to everyone who's already written in, but if someone out there really want to see black-and-white strips, now's your time to chime in. (Sorry folks, it looks like colour is here to stay.) Finally, an official challenge. Anyone who can predict something big about the storyline gets a prize or something. Valid topics include: What's Libero's role in the story, and Who is Blue Girl? If you come up with something else, by all means, send it in; but I'll only tell you if you get something spot-on accurate, and maybe not even then. You might just get a special surprise in your inbox one day. You are all doomed to fail, of course. DOOMED! HISTORY And why does a knight of the republic chow down on a rat leg? Because it brings back memories. See, in his younger days (before age 25?) Libero was an adventurer, and ran across hideous aberrations in the wilderness more often than regular food. What happens next is up to the imagination of the reader. The glass on the bottle is all kinds of funky colours. This is because glassblowing was not only an art in those days, it was a rare and misunderstood art. This particular bottle is tainted with minerals that give it that sheen. Don't worry, the healing potion is unspoiled; it's difficult to ruin something that potent. ART More chop/paste art, but it did take me a while to CG the healing effect on Lorenzo. And the silhouettes came out well too. I could have done more sky detail, but my software wasn't up to it. Oh well. GAME It was Libero who provided Lorenzo with the inspiration to get out there and finish the job. We can't remember if this happened on day one or day two, so I've invoked the power of storytelling and retold the whole incident. Plus, the healing potion was consumed before the dire rat fight, but this way was more dramatic and blinds you to where I cheated. EXILE'S RANT Hello again Mortals, Today I entered apon a forbidden world, a chaotic realm of demons, harpies and forgotten knowledge. I am of course speaking of university (or college, to those of you who live on that slightly-smaller-than-Australia-sized piece of land between Canada and South America... what's it called again?). Approaching the gates of green fire, I was confronted by a spikey-headed demon who demanded my identification and purpose. Handing over my green stone tablets, I was met with "So, you're new here" and a flash of his wicked teeth. "Your head's too big, far too big. Come back to me with a smaller one tomorrow." With that, he stood aside to let me pass and began to sharpen me a spike. But I'll continue that story when something actually happens aside from signing up and buying lunch. So anyway, some readers may wonder what I have to do with this comic that I make my presence known on the site. This should satisfy both of you: As far as the comic itself goes, practically nothing. It's usually drawn and coloured by the time I see it. However, I'll be moving back to somewhere closer soon, and should be able to take a more active stance on what goes in BEFORE it's drawn (waiting for a completed page and saying 'nonono, that bit's wrong' doesn't sit well with me - suggesting contents of the next frame or comic does). Aside from that I was Lorenzo's PC, but with the third player a few hundred k's up north, it's a good thing we've got a LOT of comic to go before we catch up. By that time, we'll've had more group/game time, he may in fact have moved back down here again. Moving along... ... or not. It's 11pm and I've only just had dinner. Since I have Uni tomorrow (still not really used to this whole 'Outside' thing) I'll probably have to head off to bed very soon. Meantime, keep on reading, Peasants! This is still only just the beginning, and if you stop coming back I'll go to your house and kill you. ..... I've been reading too much Love and Hate... Okay, how about this: Meantime, enjoy the comic and all the contents, I'm hoping to eventually build up some sections of the site (like a Gamer's Corner or something, where humourous and painful facts about the game itself come thru - it's only in the pipe-dream phase at present).
