Very late today, folks (6 hours), and I'm sorry for the delay. I had a lot of stuff to take care of, mostly watching TV. It seemed a good idea to get rid of one-and-a-half months of tapes on Saturday morning... Exile will do most of the talking today. He's found so much nostaligc stuff about Samurai Pizza Cats it's not funny, and is now living in a time warp. I haven't seen him today, but I expect he's regressed to the point where he no longer needs to shave, and may start losing height over the next few days. I have yet to see whether his hair starts growing back in, though. ART A mixed bag here... I tried something new, and it ended up taking a little longer than I'd have liked. But the negative energy, that green stuff, came out surprisingly well. GAME Energy drain. Frankly, with that ability I'm not even sure why a vampire needs to bite people. Hello again, Just been reading Walky, and of all the classic quotes I've heard lately from various sources (more than you think, but more on that later), the best right now has to be "But these are clean, happy love pants." Ahh, that's Joyce, eh? Yes, I do read other web comics (can you say 'inspiration'?). As for today's strip, I've only seen the top half in pencil so far, so don't hold your breath for any great reflections on it. However, s/LaSH and I have discussed it some in the last few days, so if I remember right, it should fall into the category of "pretty damned cool" (no, I don't say 'darn' and people who say 'dang' should be shot - twice). Today I actually have something to rant about: 80's cartoons. For some reason or another, the Pole Position theme song got stuck in my head the other day, so I went looking for it. I had no idea I'd open such a big gateway. A couple of years ago, looking for 80's toons that weren't Transformers or Inspector Gadget was like looking for a fight at a monastry (Clive Barker's Undying excluded). Now there's a plethora of sources, with pages ranging from episode guides for Pole Position and MASK (which I never saw, by the way) to full episodes of Samurai Pizza Cats, along with both useful and useless trivia, such as the singer screwing up in the intro, or why in the last 2 eps Speedy suddenly has feelings for Polly instead of Lucille. Turns out Saban only bought the visual rights, so they made up all the dialogue and music from scratch. You may've noticed I've taken quite the interest in Samurai Pizza Cats ("Pizza's our middle name" hehe). Funny how life comes full circle so quickly, huh? I've now embarked on a holy quest to get all the episodes I can. But rather than point others with similar goals to a specific site, I'll just advise you to either search for the SPC webring or for SPC realmovies. I've also stumbled across such things as Wheel Warriors, Orm and Cheep, Mysterious Cities of Gold, Wonderwoman (parallel to the old Batman series - complete with campy music), I'm surprised I can't name more, considering I've got like 30 MP3s of title sequences now. There's of course Muppets, Fraggles and Smurfs, things like that. Tell you what tho, I had no idea there'd be such a nostalgia trip from it. I mean a real, REAL trip. It's like being on a drug just listening to some of that stuff, and it leaves you craving more. Now, for example, I wanna find the Japanese eps of Pizza Cats, so I can see what's really supposed to happen. Not to mention the 12 eps that never made it to the States. Still no sign of The Mighty Orbots tho... If anyone, ANYONE has any info on that, MAIL ME! We used to have 2 eps on our old Beta VCR, until my brother taped "Back to the Future" over it... grrr... Since then, I can't even find it on bulk revival sites ("Here's 2 small pics and some old fans ranting about the old days - write yours next to theirs!"). It's gonna be quite a task... My other machine's on now, so let's have a look at what else I found... Defenders of the Earth, Knightmare, Garfield and Friends (I'm fairly sure that was early 90's tho), Pirates of Darkwater, Wombles, Stop the Pidgeon, Woody Woodpecker, Topcat, Thundercats (of course), Gummi Bears, Chip'n'Dale, Teddy Ruxpin, good God, there's even T-Bag and SuperGran in here. Obviously I won't quest after most of them, only the best, but it's still a good kick in the ol' nostalgic nerve. If you want a kick in your nostalgic nerve, take a look at www.cryokinesis.co.uk. And if I've spelled it wrong, get a dictionary or someshit. Remember tho, some shows (Wheel Warriors, Pirates of Darkwater, etc) had memorable music, but it wasn't in the title sequence. These pieces are harder to find. I found the WW ending theme, but no dice for the Darkwater stuff. Ahh well... That's enough from me for today. Have fun, mortals, I'm off to catch up on some CRFH and, with any luck, go to town to see Reign of Fire. (But not with me, 'cause I was still colouring when he wrote this. -s/LaSH) Aluvé, Exile |
