And a new year comes upon us! (It's already been 2003 for half a day here by the time you read this.) So I guess I should make some resolutions... trouble is, I always think of circumstances in which resolutions would be rendered negative. So instead of promising to put every comic up on time (which I've done anyway, minus a couple of hours), I'll promise to do the best by my public. And generally do good. That way, if I get employment elsewhere, I can justify it by telling everyone what I'm doing. I suppose you've all heard about the Raelian Clonaid cloning announcement. As far as I can make out, they want to create human duplicates to prolong the life of the original. That's not ethical in my book. I think cloning is something we should get right, because it would enable us to recover from some very stupid mistakes that are likely to be made in the future, but clones are people too, not just surrogate bodies. I won't go on; I think anything else I have to say would be unneccessarily technical and tangential. Anyway, that aside, have a good year, everybody. HISTORY You can probably discern a difference in the arrowheads sticking out of, well, other heads in this strip. The blue-fletched one belongs to Alraud, and has a narrow tip to pierce thick hide or bone. The black-fletched one, surprisingly, belongs to Lorenzo. Its wider head is designed to slash through unprotected flesh. The trident is simply designed to make lots of holes in someone. ART I like what's happening with the wolves' fur. It's a simple trick - just go over the basic colour gradient with a small airbrush in both light and dark tones, keeping to the grain of the hair. The red is added later. Speaking of red, JPG once again destroyed the fine mist of particles of blood, but you can see hints of what the original looked like around the arrowed wolf's eye. The wolves are modeled partially on the Worg illustration in the DnD Monster Manual by Richard Sardhina, but after I got the hang of the lupine form I started taking extra inspiration from my dog. She's a keeshond (Dutch barge dog), which is basically just like these critters, only with a black and silver coat, a little more fluff, and a little smaller. (OK, she's barely knee-high.) She's quite adorable, I assure you. And the mouth shot is (with a little more emphasis on the forward fangs) very accurate. The roof of her mouth is black and ridged even more so than I've depicted here. Why? I don't know. Oh, and Cat's leather pants look great. GAME Well, that's how it went. Thwack-thwack-thwack, and a wolf jumps on Cat. And if you think you know what happens next, I'd like to make this statement: This isn't a normal narrative. Anyone can die at any time. You have been warned. |
